Ask The Sage

Hi would you say that all of these would be healthy to eat while trying to loose weight??

Great question. This kind of digs into my philosophy on cooking after nutrition entered my life, but I won't bore you with that too much. I think eating healthfully is enjoying yourself always, and most of the time with fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. Sometimes, though, I think it is NECESSARY to indulge in foods that may not be the healthiest, but that you enjoy.

To directly answer your question, YES, I think that the recipes on the site are good for trying to live a healthy lifestyle - this can include weight loss. If you scan the recipe section, you will notice a lot of the aforementioned food groups (fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains), but sometimes a cooking method or ingredient that might not be so healthy. It really is all about balance. And only with balance will you be able to lose weight - any form of restrictions will eventually cave in and what weight you do lose will likely just be regained.

Lastly, let me also say that I do not know what your current diet is like. Weight loss is all about what goes in and what comes out. Namely diet and exercise. For weight loss to occur, you need to have burnt calories surpass consumed calories. This is a fine line because lack of eating will not result in appropriate weight loss, so eating small complete meals throughout the day really is best. Dieting alone is not the best way to lose weight as it usually involves a lot restrictions that, as said before, are temporary and leave you right back where you started.

I hope this helps your question and more! Happy Eating!
